Monaroo Bobberrer Gudu Keeping Place | Eden Aboriginal Land Council

A cultural gateway to Country – a place to keep, share, and grow.

Located on Yuin/Djuwin Country, the project builds on a rich history of cultural respect and community connection. The brief called for a revitalised space that supports ceremony, education, and storytelling while improving amenities for gatherings, exhibitions, and cultural tourism. The outcome will be a welcoming destination for learning and celebration, and the home of the Giiyong Festival – one of the largest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural events on the NSW South Coast.

Nguluway DesignInc led integrated community engagement (Connecting with Country) and concept interior design services. Our approach ensured cultural authenticity through consultation and design moves that honour artefacts, improve accessibility, and reflect the textures and rhythms of the coastal landscape.

Designing with Country

Drawing inspiration from Eden’s ochre cliffs and totemic animals, the design introduces flexible spaces for ceremony, youth learning, and cultural exchange. Materiality draws from earth, wood, stone, and water, weaving Country into every detail.

Empowering Community Voices

Collaboration with the Eden Local Aboriginal Land Council guided the vision. Workshops and dialogue informed design elements that respect heritage and empower future generations.

Creating a Living Legacy

The Keeping Place will feature museum-grade displays for artefacts, a discovery centre, café, and commercial kitchen, creating a hub for education, tourism, and cultural celebration. It will stand as a living space where stories are held, voices are heard, and culture is carried forward.
