Within Wiradjuri Country, Nguluway DesignInc were commissioned to lead Connecting with Country engagement—championing the design of a purpose-built drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility that embeds traditional cultural practices as part of its healing and wellbeing strategy.
Community-led healing
There is a focus on collective gathering, encouraging residences to establish sound relationships within a culturally safe place. The centre piece being the dance and performance space which bring people together around traditional story-telling, dance, smoking ceremonies and cultural sharing.
Overlaying this with the complex requirements of clinical planning, the design outcomes reframe the project as a Country-Centric design approach.
