‘Now More Than Ever’—Recounting our National Reconciliation Week panel
On Wednesday 29 May, Nguluway DesignInc and DesignInc Sydney hosted an esteemed panel and a host of clients and industry professionals as we explored this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme: ‘Now More Than Ever’.
This National Reconciliation Week, we were proud to have hosted a very full, very engaged room of industry professionals for discourse around this year's theme—Now More Than Ever.
In the architecture and design industry, we have a unique opportunity to contribute to reconciliation efforts. By dedicating time to learn from knowledge holders, understanding local histories, listening to and learning from local Elders and communities, and fostering trusting relationships, we can strengthen our connections to Country, nature, and each other. This approach leads to a more informed, inclusive, and accurately curated built environment that promotes reconciliation.
Nguluway DesignInc Managing Director and event moderator, Craig Kerslake, said:
"Incubators with strong Indigenous leadership are the best way forward for reconciliation in the built environment. Growing and nurturing the number of First Nations people in our industry should be, and is, our number one priority. Incubators like Bush to Bowl—an Indigenous-owned business—has a majority of Indigenous staff and often include disadvantaged individuals who are upskilled and grounded in cultural practice. DLG Shape is committed to design excellence, ensuring Indigenous themes are maintained rather than value engineered out. Nguluway DesignInc aims to increase the number of First Nations architects by providing strong mentorship and leadership through Indigenous pastoral care. Success comes from supporting such incubators, where Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses collaborate in a symbiotic process."
To our esteemed panel, guests, and the Nguluway DesignInc + DesignInc Sydney team who contributed to such a meaningful evening this National Reconciliation Week—thank you, and Maranbangbilang Nguluway [it's truly magnificent to walk together].
