Blak Hand Collective on Radio National

Nguluway DesignInc Director, Craig Kerslake is part of the ‘Blak Hand Collective’, a group of First Nations architects, artists, designers and researchers who come together to share ideas, provide a voice and platform for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers and collaborate on projects.

In July 2022, two founding members of the Blak Hand Collective—Craig Kerslake (Nguluway DesignInc) and Jefa Greenaway (Greenaway Architects)—talked about their journey and vision on ABC Radio National’s Blueprint for Living program.

It’s truly fascinating to work with an all Indigenous team. I guess you could say that we start at a high level of cultural narrative when we come from that place....the sense of goodwill and cultural integrity in the space is really intense.

As practitioners where we are out there trying to create architecture and it’s really hard when we have to take a lot of non-Indigenous people with us on this journey of designing with Country, connecting with Country, and just to get with a whole bunch of Indigenous people, it’s really easy, and we’re excited, and I have to say it works really well.
